‘Doctor Who’ Video Clip 1: ‘The Dalek Invasion of Earth’ (1960’s) (Formal)

This is a clip from 1960’s ‘Doctor Who’ from the end of a serial called ‘The Dalek Invasion of Earth’.

It shows The Doctor played by an old man (William Hartnell) saying goodbye to his companion and grandaughter Susan Foreman (played by Carole Ann Ford). Susan is unwillingly staying with a person called David Campbell to spend the rest of her life with him and to probably get married and have kids with him.

Media Focus Group Surveys & Questionnaires

My group are planning to conduct various surveys and questionnaires on both the web and face to face. They will be completed by focus groups. This could be a number of different focus groups of it could be the same one all the time, we don’t know yet we haven’t figured out what we are definately going to do yet. The focus group and target audience that we will be focusing on the most though is obiviously 16-19 year old media students as anyone who has read my previous posts will know.

How science-fiction has changed over the years

Firstly, ‘Doctor Who’ is massively different nowadays to how it was back in the 1960’s. When the show started The Doctor was played by an old man (William Hartnell) and nowadays he is played by a young man (Matt Smith). His companions back then were his granddaughter (Susan Foreman) and two school teachers (Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright), but nowadays it is a woman who keeps dying every time he meets her (Clara Oswin Oswald), so the program has become more complicated over the years with complex story arcs. In the 50th anniversary it is rumoured that there will even be a secret story arc that has been building up over the last three years, maybe more. In the 60’s there weren’t hardly any story arcs.

What my group plans to do

We plan to create questionnaires and surveys and give them to people in the focus group of 16-19 year old teenage media students as this is the target audience we are trying to reach out to. Some of these will be handed to people directly, others would be conducted online e.g. Survey Monkey. Some might even be asking the people all the questions directly. We would collect the survey results after a week has pasted as we feel this is an adequate enough time to collect all the necessary results that we require.
